Developing Expertise in Modeling Ballistics and Explosive Loading
On January 28-29, 2026, employees of our department: Rafał Michalczyk and Kazimierz Józefiak, along with PhD students: Jędrzej Pawłowski and Piotr Piwowarski, participated in a training course titled "Ballistic Impacts in ANSYS LS-Dyna," organized by MESco. The main thematic focus of the meeting was the numerical modeling of nonlinear dynamics and extreme loads, with particular emphasis on the mechanics of ballistic impacts, the effects of explosives, and shock wave propagation in various media.
The objective of the IFMIF-DONES project is to build a neutron source necessary for testing materials for future thermonuclear reactors (such as DEMO). It is a strategic undertaking on the roadmap of European research infrastructure, aimed at realising the vision of clean energy from nuclear fusion. As part of the task titled "Expert assessment about thermal and thermo-structural analyses involved in the TC design", scientists from the Warsaw University of Technology carried out a comprehensive verification of the technical feasibility and safety of the heart of the entire facility – the Test Cell. The work focused on analysing the behaviour of biological shielding and structural components exposed to extreme operating conditions, including high levels of radiation and thermal loads.
PhD thesis public defence, mgr inż. Kazimierza Józefiaka
On 15.11.2021 public defense of doctoral dissertation by Kazimierz Józefiak, entitled Constitutive modelling of soil properties as subgrade for concrete pavements took place. The dissertation was supervised by prof. Artur Zbiciak. The dissertation was revied by: Małgorzata Jastrzębska, PhD and prof. Adam Zofka. The defense was successful and resulted in conferring doctoral degree to Kazimierz Józefiak.
